Mark your calendars! Once again, New Collective LA is proud to announce our second full length staged production in partnership with Salio Productions: Sam Shepard’s “True West” will perform in the New Collective Theater for four weekends in October, beginning Friday, October 2nd! Last year’s production of “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair De Lune” was a huge success and fulfilled our shared vision that if artists work together in a supportive and nurturing environment they can create their own opportunities and bring their passion projects to life!
This American classic nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 1983 explores alternatives that might spring from the demented terrain of the California landscape. Sons of a desert dwelling alcoholic and a suburban wanderer clash over a film script. Austin, the achiever, is working on a script he has sold to producer Sal Kimmer when Lee, a demented petty thief, drops in. He pitches his own idea for a movie to Kimmer, who then wants Austin to junk his bleak, modern love story and write Lee’s trashy Western tale.
“True West” will star New Collective Members Shawn Robinson and Greg Abbott – also starring Matt Word (New Collective Co-founder) and directed by Greg Braun (New Collective Co-founder).
